Great Neck Estates OKs camera to track foxes, coyotes

Village of Great Neck Estates trustees on Monday approved a request from the Gotham Wildlife Project to install a camera in Great Neck Estates Pond Park.

The wildlife project said the purpose of the camera would be to provide feedback on the migrating patterns of coyote and/or fox in the area after a sighting.

Village officials said they didn’t see any problem with the request.

“I don’t see any objection to helping them with their efforts as long as they grant a waiver of liability and have insurance,” Village of Great Neck Estates Mayor David A. Fox said.

According to Deputy Mayor William D. Warner, the Great Neck pools and parks are “proceeding swimmingly.”

The beautiful weather this year, he said, has resulted in high attendance this year.

An effort to survey the Village roads has been delayed by construction work conducted by National Grid, officials said.

However, National Grid expects to be done within the month, allowing the village to complete its survey work by mid-October, before the weather gets bad, they said.

The next board meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 3.

The agenda, officials said,  is expected to include consideration of the First Playhouse zoning application.
