Great Neck guide reveals large demographic changes

The Island Now

The recent Guide To Great Neck was extremely interesting for its all-inclusiveness of the features of this lovely community.

I noted that of the 46 photos and names of our local village governments, 42 of them are of the Jewish faith. Quite an impressive change from the Great Neck which was, until sometime after World War II, totally restricted to Jewish residents.

In fact, in 1949 one Jewish man from Brooklyn changed his name, bought a home in the Village of Great Neck and joined a local church.

The old-time Great Neck blue-bloods must be turning in their graves.
