Great Neck library board not up to handling bond money

The Island Now

As someone who regularly uses the Great Neck Library facilities and attends board of trustee and building committee meetings, I would like to add my voice to the debate about the upcoming bond issue referendum.

While there have been arguments made both for and against expanding the Main Library building, my main issue is allowing what I believe to be a dysfunctional and incompetent board (with the exception of one or two members who are not able to make their good sense prevail) to have the responsibility over the expenditure of millions of dollars.

The board has shown by the fiasco in handling the recent renovation of the Station Branch that they are not qualified to be trusted with large sums of your tax dollars. This is a warning signal that should not be ignored.

My advice to friends of the library is to be sure to vote on Oct. 25 and to be sure to vote against the bond approval. When we have a more capable Board, that would be the time to proceed.
