Great Neck library makes changes after letter

The Island Now

I know that you must read all mail to the editor to ferret out licentious material. Did you read the essay about the Great Neck Library written 11/18 by that malevolent individual who does a weekly column. I suspect that she is in the construction/destruction business.

Ms. Marino has already started on relocation of major departments within the footprint of the existing structure.

She would replace the boiler if the reserve funds which had accumulated over the years were not consumed buying pie in the sky. Close to $1 million had been accumulated; now almost nothing remains. Then there is A/C.

Your reporter states that $370 thousand had been spent; nothing had been budgeted.

I have lived in Great Neck for 45 years. I watched that extraordinary building go up. I don’t act in a vituperate manner as she did regarding Norman Rutta, a former member of the Great Neck library board. The current board has become more aware of the community now that their favorite project was defeated by almost 3:1.

I do not count Norman Rutta amongst my friends, nor I have I been to his house, but three people wrote his name in to be on that lopsided board. The nominating committee picks from amongst their constituency. They do not even pick six, vote three, as many corporations do.

I think that Karen Rubin should be censured. She is still measuring square feet. I suggest that she would also like to see the magnificent library on Fifth Avenue, New York City replaced. Their books are all collector’s books. I even gave them eight.
