Village of Great Neck Plaza trustees on Monday selected Tectonic Engineering & Surveying Consultants to do the engineering work for the Maple Drive Sustainable Parking Lot project.

Village Mayor Jean Celender said Tectonic Engineering & Surveying Consultants offered to do the work for a little less than $100,000 – the amount the village had allocated for the engineering work on the project.

“We will get 50 percent reimbursed but we have to bear 50 percent of the [engineering] cost. It’s part of what we authorized in the 2015 budget,” Celender said at the board’s regularly scheduled meeting.

As part of the village’s $6.5 million budget the trustees passed in January, the Maple Drive lot will be updated with the help of a Green Innovation Grant Program from the state Environmental Facilities Corporation.

Village clerk and treasurer Patricia O’Byrne said the Environmental Facilities Corporation approved the selection of Tectonic to do the engineering work.

For the work being done to the Maple Drive lot, the village expects to get about 80 percent of their total money back for the work from the green grant.

Celender said she hopes the actual work on the lot will begin when it gets warm.
