Great Neck resident Marilyn Hoffman was made a little richer last month after being named on Jan. 5 the grand prize winner of the Great Neck Plaza Business Improvement District’s Shopping Spree Scavenger Hunt.

Hoffman was given $2,500 in prize money after winning the scavenger hunt, which took place in November and was part of American Express’ “Shop Small Business Saturday.”

Hoffman, according to a release, spent some of her winnings so far at Adele Kauff, a clothing boutique located at 5 Bond St.

“I am so happy that Marilyn won the scavenger hunt,” said Richard Kauff, owner of Adele Kauff, in a statement. “She has been a loyal customer. I am glad she has this opportunity to treat herself to some wonderful new clothes.”

Scavenger hunters had to find, through a series of clues, 14, 5-foot tall giraffes placed in stores and on sidewalks located throughout Great Neck Plaza’s downtown shopping district.

Each of the giraffes had a letter printed on the torso. The 14-letter, two-word phrase had to be deciphered for contestants to enter the contest to win the shopping spree.

Adele Kauff was opened in 1957, according to the release, and offers hand-picked collections from designers all over the world. This past year was the first year the BID sponsored a scavenger hunt.

Hoffman also shared some of her prize money with her friends Roberta Lulov and Nicole Ledbury, who plan to spend their money at the Gelber & Mundy jewelry store at 5 Bond St., according to the release.
