Green Vale School holds commencement

The 91st Closing Exercises at The Green Vale School took place on Wednesday, June 13 at the School’s campus in Old Brookville.

On stage to present diplomas were Headmaster Stephen Watters, Tom Marvin, director of Upper School, Joe Donohue, president of the Board of Trustees and Linda Gardiner, assistant head of school. Rev. David Ware presided at the ceremony and shared the benediction. 

Austen Schweber was elected by his peers to deliver a commencement speech. Students also chose Rich Quinlan, History teacher, to address the audience.

This year’s winner of the Derby Medal, the highest honor given to a graduating student, was Austen Schweber. Alexander Lupenko was presented with the Benjamin Farnsworth VanderPoel Memorial Award. The Joseph E. Crowell Bowl for highest academic average in grade nine was awarded to Taylor Stevens and Austen Schweber. 

The John C. Green Bowl for highest academic average in grade eight was awarded to Julianne Cottone and John Doran. Arielle Warren, Caroline Wilson and John Doran were awarded the Thomas M. Bancroft, Jr. Citizenship Award.

The Buckley Award was presented to Wilson Chapman and Elizabeth Gherlone. Elizabeth was also the winner of the Warner Grade Eight Speech Contest. Grace Eberle and Addison Dolido received the North Country Community Association Citizenship Award. 

The Robert Fenwick Jackson Bowl was awarded to Julian Coleman and Elinor Simek. Headmaster’s Awards were presented to Christian Barakat, Amelia Cardone, Gabrielle Bauer and Dr. Anne Bailey Watters.
