Herricks Fundraiser Concert

The Island Now

The auditorium at Herricks High School was nearly packed last Friday evening for a concert to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy, featuring the Herricks High School Song Writing Club, teachers Alan Semerdjian, Herricks parent Rich Stein and the CounterClockwise Ensemble.

The concert was held to benefit the Interfaith Nutrition Network, a non-demoniational organization that works to end hunger and homelessness on Long Island. INN also held an auction and raffle in the school cafeteria to help raise money as well.

The Song Writing Club performed three songs, including the Beatles’ “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” and Coldplay’s “Fix You.”  Semerdjian, an english teacher at Herricks High School, performed his own compositions with pianist Matthew Iselin and percussionist Josh Barshak.

Stein, guitarist of the CounterClockwise Ensemble joined Semerdjian on stage for an improvised piece, as well as performing with the ensemble for the final act. Those attending donated $10 to the fundraising effort.
