Herricks holds annual Alzheimer’s Day

The Island Now

The Herricks Alzheimer’s Day Program, known as “Our Space,” celebrated Adult Day Services week with members, families and staff. Judy Santoianni, assistant director of Long Term Care for Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs was in attendance and presented a citation from the office of Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano.

Herricks Superintendent of Schools Jack Bierwirth along with assistant superintendents Helen Costigan and Deirdre Hayes were also present. Once again, King Kullen donated a sheet cake and a fruit presentation for the party.

“Our Space” is a social model of adult day care established in September 1987 for Nassau County residents over the age of 60 with a diagnosis of early to moderate onset of dementia. While the senior is socializing and enjoying recreational activities, their loved one can enjoy and benefit from the respite.

In addition, caregiver support groups are offered during the year. The program meets Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Herricks Community Center, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park. Please call the Program Director P.J. Foley, at (516) 742-0851 for additional information.
