The Herricks Board of Education approved the appointment of Lisa Ann Rutkoske on Tuesday to replace Helen Costigan as the district’s assistant superintendent for business when she retires in June.
“I am delighted to have Lisa come on board as a part of the Herricks administration team,” Herricks school Superintendent Fino Celano said. “The entire search committee was extremely impressed with her knowledge, experience and engaging personality. I am sure she will be an asset to the school district.”
Costigan announced plans in December to retire in June after 12 years in the district. She was hired in 2004.
Rutkoske is a certified public accountant and the current assistant superintendent for business in Valley Stream Union Free School District 30.
During the meeting, the school board approved the $20,789,248 tentative 2016-2017 administration budget for the Nassau Board of Cooperative Educational Services, which provides shared services for all 56 Nassau County school districts.
The board also unanimously approved a policy allowing Internet use in the Herricks schools as long as students have permission from at least one of their parents or guardians to access the Internet at school.
The revised district policy says a student’s activities while using the Internet must be in support of education and research, and be consistent with the district’s educational objectives.
The school board also approved the budget and fee structure for the district’s 2016 Summer Primary Recreation Program.
The fee for the summer recreation program for kindergarten through fifth grade will be $995 per student for a full day and $595 for the morning only.
The fee for grades six through nine will be $1,250 per student for a full day.
Upon Celano’s recommendation, the board also approved an agreement with Textbook Central for the procurement and distribution of textbooks for Herricks students attending non-public schools during the 2016-2017 school year.
No objection was made when the board discussed a five-year lease renewal for the Herricks Community Center from July 1, 2016, through June 30, 2021.
