High-end car park for classy wheels

Car owners concerned about storing their Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, classic cars and other high-end vehicles can stop worrying now.

The recently opened Deluxe Car Storage in New Hyde Park has space for up to 350 cars at a secure 60,000 square foot facility located at 1401 4th Ave. in New Hyde Park for as little as $499 a month.

The array of cars at last Thursday night’s grand opening, featuring a white Rolls-Royce Phantom, two Ferraris, a new model Jaguar, a Corvette, and a Cobra gave the place the look of a car show rather than a storage facility.

“The thing about a car like this is, it’s not your everyday car,” said Frank Crivello, senior vice president of operations and marketing for parent company Storage Deluxe, standing by a bright orange S-type Jaguar convertible. “A lot of people who buy these cars are collectors who need a place to keep them.”

The climate-controlled location is based on a demand in the area, which Crivello said has been justified by the business Deluxe Car Storage has drawn since opening its doors last January. He said the demand for storing luxury vehicles rose in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, as concerns for maintaining the condition of high-end autos increased.

The business’ customer base is on Long Island and in the five boroughs of New York City, according to Crivello, who said the 4th Avenue location in New Hyde Park was ideal location due to its proximity to the New Hyde Park Long Island Rail Road station, which is less than 30 minutes away from Manhattan by train.

“We love its proximity to the recreation and fun that Long Island offers,” he said.

Another reason for locating the facility in New Hyde Park was Crivello’s position on the board of directors of the Long Island Association for the past 25 years.

“So much of the fabric of Long Island is the business community working with the local community,” he said.

Crivello said clients will be a short walk from the train station to be able to pick up their cars for a weekend in the Hamptons. The facility accommodates both short-term and long-term storage with rates for either purpose.

Kelly Brach, Deluxe Car Storage manager, said one car can be stored annually for a rate of $6,500. Two cars can be stored for $11,000 in a storage bay with a lift for the second car. Three cars can be stored in a private garage for $15,000 depending on the size of the cars.

She said all Deluxe Car Storage annual membership packages also include monthly car washes, quarterly detailing services, and free annual inspection service.

Crivello said annual storage also offers clients have 24-hour access to cars in secure bays or the private garages monitored by a security camera. When picking up their cars at night, they are given a code enabling them to gain access to the storage bay containing their vehicles.

Brach said the rate for monthly storage is $499. But she said all storage rates are currently available at a 15 percent discount until the facility reaches 100 cars in storage. She said the facility currently has 35 cars in storage.

Deluxe Storage is also intended to be a deluxe car club, with a lounge where clients can relax and watch auto racing and other sports events.

“Luxury car owners in New York need – and truly want – a place where they can bond over their passion and where storage professionals will treat their cars like they would treat their own,” Crivello said.

Crivello said he also offer services to ship cars out of state, or to ship them from other states to the New Hyde Park facility.

At last week’s grand opening, Crivello said the fall is the time of year when luxury car owners typically seek a safe haven for their prized wheels.

“This is really the car-storage season. The leaves fall, the weather changes,” Crivello said.
