Hillside Library draws literacy kudo

The Island Now

The Hillside Library of New Hyde Park was recently honored by Literacy Nassau as a Community Partner of the Year at its annual awards night held at the Universalist Unitarian Congregation in Shelter Rock. The library, which has worked with Literacy Nassau to provide Conversational English classes for the past five years and welcomes individual tutors and students weekly, was recognized for its dedication to the cause of literacy, particularly in relation to a new series of ESL/Citizenship classes being offered by Literacy Nassau.

The next series of free ESL/Citizenship classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursdays evenings (July 2 – September 5) from 5:45-8:45 p.m. Interested persons may continue to register in the class until it is full and should come to the library at 5:30 p.m. on the day of a class to register.  Free appointments with immigration attorneys will be available for any student enrolled in the class.

For further information, call the Hillside Public Library at (516) 355-7850, x304.
