Holocaust Center holding arts contest

The Island Now

This deadline for submission of entries for this year’s Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center of Nassau County creative arts competition is March 4.

The competition is open to fifth through 12th grade students in Nassau or Suffolk County.

The theme of this year’s competition is “Reflecting Back, Looking Forward.” Students who are interested in submitting an entry are asked to think about how the past continues to influence themselves, their community, their nation and the world.

Entries should make a clear connection to the past, present and future. Categories for which entries can be submitted are prose, poetry, painting, sculpture, photography, multi-media, video and music.

Winners will be notified by the end of March. An awards ceremony recognizing the winners will take place on Sunday, April 10, at the Holocaust Memorial & Tolerance Center.

All students who submit an entry will receive a certificate of participation. Prize cash awards are granted by category and school level. Group entries will be considered as one entry and the award will go to the submitting school.
