Hospital worker charged with theft

A North Shore University Hospital employee in Manhasset was arrested Wednesday for allegedly pawning off a necklace she stole from an 82-year-old patient, police said.

Police arrested and charged Linda Hernandez, 37, of Islip, a patient-care associate at the hospital, with criminal possession of stolen property.

According to detectives, the victim noticed the necklace, valued at $2,000, had gone missing on July 5. 

The 3rd Squad conducted an investigation of pawn shops and found the necklace had been sold to East Islip Jewelers, where Hernandez has sold jewelry.

Hernandez was arraigned  Thursday at 1st District Court in Hempstead.
