How to improve the Great Neck library

The Island Now

I see the continued necessity to wake the board at the GN Library.

How much is the snack area used? As a dentist I think that it is cavity causing. Eliminate it.

Reference section: What usage does it have? Has anyone done an efficiency analysis of use? Use by individuals per day? Let’s send it to station. It could be put along the walls of the hallway to the bathrooms. It is a  more central location for the people south of the LIRR.

Now that the basement of Lakeville has been cleaned out, I am hoping that they will transfer (only what is necessary) lots of stored records. Hundreds of square feet worth. That storeroom in the main basement may be over 1000 sq. ft.. It could make a dance hall or study hall as there are no windows to distract the occupants.

Then move CD & DVD to reference area. Convert the office to another quiet room. Relocate the computers which replaced the lovely cards. That combined space would make a great teen hideaway when combined with the former storage space.

Reconfigure the entrance area where the children’s books are stored so that there is a large open space for reading. And lower bookcases even for tall parents. Minor alterations and moving of the checkout desks would make this possible.
