Huntington gallery to host 3 exhibits

The Island Now

Huntington’s b.j. spoke gallery will be hosting three separate exhibitions during the month of September.

In one of the gallery rooms, artist Barbara Miller will be featured in a showing of her abstract mixed-media collage paintings.

Miller, who began painting after she retired, has had her work featured in the International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Exhibit at the Jacob Javitz Center in New York City  and at the Art Expo in New York in 2008. She also participate in the Art Walk in San Diego’s Little Italy, the San Diego County Fair, The Rancho Santa Fe Art Fair; The Del Mar Art Stroll as well as various gallery showings and venues where she  won numerous awards.  Her paintings are in private collections in California, Hawaii, Nevada, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Florida, North Carolina and more.

Damon Tommolino’s show, titled “In lieu of,” will be featured in one of the gallery’s other rooms.

Tommolino’s works are politically motivated, but aesthetically driven. According to his website, www.tommolino.com, the artist states, “the point of my paintings is to provoke as much thought as possible. I try hard not to overly point a viewer in any one specific direction. I don’t believe this is my job as an artist. I would much rather present several ideas or options or paths for any viewer to take throughout any given piece. Therefore, I purposely leave a certain amount of ambiguity in the work. At its best, viewers will be able to make connections between the characters I paint and their own lives”

Fall Colors, a members’ exhibition, will be on view in another of the gallery’s rooms.

An artists’ reception was held on Saturday. Sept. 6.
