Kudos for Callahan; keeping things safe

At the village reorganization meeting, our own Marie Callahan was honored by the Village Board for her achievement as a Woman of Honor, awarded to her by the Town of North Hempstead. A capacity crowd filled the village meeting room and all looked on and cheered as she was presented with a village proclamation.

It has been requested by the Neighbor hood Watch Committee that residents display their window decal declaring the area to be a Neighborhood Watch Community. It is important that these placards be visible as they are a key element in helping to keep our neighborhood safe. Residents who need a decal can pick one up at Village Hall or ask their Block captain for one. At the recent neighborhood Watch meeting Sgt. Scott Harbison   reported that the Village continues to be safe with very limited illegal behavior.

At this meeting it was suggested that residents leave their front lights on throughout the night to provide better illumination which should help to deter illegal behavior.

As previously reported, an illegal massage parlor was in operation at A and A studios at 467 Willis Ave. With the cooperation and efforts of Inspector Sean McCarty, Deputy Inspector Robert Musetich ( 3rd Precinct) Detective Captain Kevin Smith (Narcotics/vice )various police officers, Building Inspector Kerry Collins and some local business people,  this operation has ceased.

The landlord has not renewed the lease and the tenants have moved out. While the type of operation is never wanted in any community, this group ran the illegal business two blocks from St. Adians School, church, and gym, one block from the Williston Park Library/ Village Hall, one block from The Solomon Schechter School, and two blocks from the 3rd Precinct. Thanks to all those who played a role in ending this operation. This type of business is not welcomed in our Village and all efforts necessary will be taken to prevent future operations from opening.

The weather is finally warming and the village staff has begun to ready the Roger Fay Pool for the 2013 season. Applications for pool membership are on the village Web site and will be sent out to residents in the Village Green shortly.

With the milder weather more children are out, more people are walking/running and riding bikes. Please keep this in mind while driving.

One last word on the issuance of snow tickets: Leaving cars on the streets when they need to be plowed creates a dangerous situation and also has the potential of hindering emergency vehicles. If the village is to be criticized for making every effort to protect our residents, so be it. The safety of all surely outweighs the complaints.
