Herricks outmuscled Long Beach defensively, holding the Lady Marines to six points in the first half, while the Lady Highlanders established a 12-point lead at halftime.

“Long Beach is a great team. I really respect them,” Lady Highlanders head coach Glenn Lavey said. “Their head coach has done a terrific job with them…I was worried about this game, but fortunately we played harder and got the win.”

Alison Ricchiuti led the Lady Highlanders with 12 points, including two 3-pointers, with sophomore Erin Rivera contributing 11 points and Barbara Nictas chipping in 10 points, including one 3-pointer. Sabrina Telmo scored seven points, including one 3-pointer, and had nine rebounds for Herricks

The Lady Marine’s Aislinn Flynn scored a team-high eight points, followed by Mary McDonagh with five points, with one 3-pointer, and Molly Martin with one 3-pointer.

The win was the second in a row following Herricks women 59-25 blowout over Bellmore Kennedy. That win followed a heart-breaking 51-48 loss at the buzzer to Mephham when

Mepham’s Ally Murphy made a 3/4 court shot to decide that game.

Long Beach (5-3) came to Herricks riding a four-game winning streak.

Lady Marines head coach Kristin Ciccone, played for Long Beach High School from 2001-2005, and earned all-county honors as a senior.

Herricks improved its record to 9-2 with an 81-67 victory over Calhoun last Friday night.
