Lady Jaguars win back-to-back games

The Island Now

The New Hyde Park GU12 Lady Jaguars have been playing great team soccer the past couple of weeks, resulting in two tough wins.

On Oct. 28, the Lady Jaguars defeated the HBC Barracudas, 3-1. Goals were scored by Alexandra Caldwell, Kate Conway and Caitlin McDonough with assists by Nora Higgins, Vrisida Bouzos, and Zoe Winston.

On Nov. 2, the Lady Jaguars defeated North Babylon Pride, 2-1. Goals were scored by Alexandra Caldwell and Mary Tsahas with an assist by Sammie Coope.

In both matches, the offensive team of Aisling McGrath and  Claire O’Regan played a key role in the ability of the team to score.

Defensive players Andrea Bouzos, Jillian Fager, Tesse Cash, Catherine Rivera, and Samantha Corrigan shut down the competition, allowing only two goals in the two games.  As usual, Linda Artuso was amazing in goal, making many key saves which contributed to the victories.

Coach Brian Higgins was very pleased with the girls’ play in the last two outings and was impressed with where players placed their shots.  Great job Lady Jags.

Seniors

Green team 6, Red team 3: The Green team dominated the field on this first day of November. Sam Ho (3) and Sebastian Gonzalez (2) extended their scoring streaks for another week.  They both seemed to be in the right place at the right time.

Tim Roth added another goal for the Green team with an assist by Debbie Chin.  Harrison Stein and Sammy Duggan were excellent midfielders for the Green team, sending the ball down the sidelines.

The Red team had some brilliant moments but was not able to keep up with the Green team scoring machine.  Tristan Yang and Adam Strominger were strong in defense and striker Stefani Egre put two goals in for the Red team.  Frank LaPinta was great at defense and in goal.  Frank then went onto the field and, with an assist from Joe Caban, scored a goal.

Juniors

Red team 9, Coaches (plus Jesse) 4: The Red team challenged the coaches to a game and Jesse Sarro volunteered to help the coaches since they certainly needed a striker on their side.  Jesse was able to put four goals in the net for the Coaches, but the Red team was just too strong.

Red team’s Connor Fitzgerald scored first followed by Seamus McWeeney.  Lucas Mitacchione put two goals in the net both on breakaways and David Cheung also had two goals.  James Sarro was both midfielder and striker and had a nice shot in the corner of the net.  The last two goals were scored by Jaydon and Kyle Marquardt.

Intermediates

Green team 3, Red team 1: The Intermediates’ Green team dominated with Chris Cooney, John Bertuccio and Steven Johnson all scoring goals.  Steven Johnson had a great game as keeper.  As midfielders, Petros D’Amico and Demitri Georgedakis were a big help to the Green team.

Steven DiBiasi stopped countless shots as Red team’s goalie. Red team’s Sophocles Gianakis, Chris Menendez and Josh Hom had several shots on goal but only one made it to the net.
