New Hyde Park Lady Jaguars Win the 2013 Annual Parsippany Pride Soccer Tournament

The New Hyde Park Wildcats GU12 Lady Jaguars took first place in the Parsippany Invitational Tournament during the Columbus Day weekend. The girls played with strong determination with three come-from-behind victories leading up to the final game.

On Saturday, the Lady Jags defeated Match Fit Academy, 3-2. In their next game, the team again came from behind to defeat FC Transylvania Red Storm, also by a score of 3-2.  The Lady Jaguars then went to victory against the Clifton Stallions, 3-1.

After fueling up during the break before the final game, the Lady Jags took an early lead against the West Islip Wildcats and held on to win the match, 2-1, making the Lady Jaguars the tournament champions.

Sam Corrigan, who played tough defense, was injured during the third game.  Sam, however, made sure to come and cheer the girls on in their final game, crutches and all.

Tournament goals were scored by Alexandra Caldwell, Mary Tsahas, Jillian Fager, Zoe Winston, Nicole Orlando and Caitlin McDonough.

The offensive team of Tesse Cash, Samantha Coope, Vrisida Bouzos, Kate Conway, Aisling McGrath and Claire O’Regan dominated throughout the four games.

The defensive team of Andrea Bouzos, Nora Higgins and Kat Rivera helped shut down all competition.

Once again, Linda “looking alive” Artuso was incredible in goal, making tremendous saves during the whole tournament.

It was clear that the “three minute” strategy  discussed at the meeting held by the team moms on Saturday evening played a key role in the success of the weekend.  Congratulations to the Lady Jaguars!

Welcome Kellenberg’s Varsity

The Kellenberg Memorial High School Varsity Soccer team came down to New Hyde Park Wildcats TOP soccer to assist the athletes in their practice.  After a rigorous practice, the Wildcats challenged the varsity players to a game.

Juniors/Intermediates

Kellenberg 1, NHP 2. This game was a strong test of skills and determination by both teams.  The Wildcats were all over the field dribbling and shooting from various angles.  But the Kellenberg goalie was very strong and stopped shot after shot.

Sophocles Gianakis, Chris Cooney, Sebastian Pinto and Josh Hom were determined to score, but the Kellenberg defense was like a brick wall and the NHP players were not able to knock it down. Fortunately, Christopher Menendez drove the ball down the middle and found a lapse in the defense and shot a ball right at the goalie. The ball rebounded back into play and Lucas Mitacchione was able to counterattack and scored the first goal.

Kyle Hanratty, Alex LaRoia, John Bertuccio, Brandon and Bryan Cisneros were very strong in midfield.  Stephen Johnson was also a great goalie, stopping many of the Kellenberg shots.  He then tried his luck on the field and did quite well.

Nicolas Krieger, Luke Schwartz, Matthew Lausev and Kyle Hanratty had some great plays throughout the game.  But alas, Kellenberg was finally able to put one ball in the net and tied the game.  With minutes remaining, Christopher Menendez shot another ball and this time it was dead center.  NHP was up by one.

The NHP defense of David Cheung, Stephen DiBiasi, Desmond O’Callaghan, Connor Fitzgerald, Daniel Menedez, Elijah Kim and Seamus McWeeney were able to stop the advancing Kellenberg players, who were anxious to tie the game.  NHP was too strong and goalie Petros D’Amico was not going to let anything get by him with minutes remaining in the match.  The Kellenberg players had numerous shots on goal as time ran out.  The referee called the game and NHP was able to win this hotly contested match.

Seniors

Kellenberg 4, NHP 5. Even though this seemed like a high scoring game, it was actually a very tough match for both teams.  The Seniors took the Kellenberg athletes by surprise with their skill work and offensive strengths.  Frank LaPinta was solid in goal for NHP.

Sam Ho had two goals. Sebastian Gonzalez celebrated his fourth goal of the season, with Justin Durso adding another goal.

Samantha Duggan, Billy Russo and Justin Lim were dynamite in their assists to the other strikers.  Debbie Chin, Charlie Hinz, Nicholas Mazariegos and Mary Glass stymied the Kellenberg with their outstanding defense.

The ref said there was literally seconds left on the clock and with the score 4-4, David Glass using his soccer intuition, scored the winning goal as the whistle blew.  It was a well-earned victory for the New Hyde Park Seniors team.

Two thoroughly entertaining soccer games were played at Center Street.  The parents and spectators enjoyed watching both matches.  New Hyde Park Top Soccer Coaches and athletes are grateful to the Kellenberg Varsity Soccer team and their coaches for taking the time to practice and share their knowledge of the game with our TOP soccer athletes.  It is always an enjoyable experience for Kellenberg and the NHP athletes and they look forward to it
