Landeta, Schefter to appear at Delicacies

For the last two years, former National Football League punter Sean Landeta has held free autograph signings at Delicacies Gourmet in the Village of Roslyn.

This year, he’ll have some company.

Landeta and ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter – both regular customers of the delicatessen – will appear at Delicacies from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 6 to meet with fans preparing for Week 1 football action.

“What better timing than right before the football season and people can talk to Sean and Adam about their teams and who they might sign,” said Jimmy Zanfardino, owner of Delicacies. “It’s going to be great where people can ask them questions and it’ll be light. Things can get heavy at times when it gets busy, but with this everyone’s happy. That’s why we do it.”

Zanfardino said Landeta and Shefter will be available to take pictures and sign autographs. The event is free of charge. Memorabilia will not be available for purchase.

“What’s really cool is Sean brings two mock Super Bowl trophies and he brings his Super Bowl rings and he lets kids try on a football helmet,” Zanfardino said. “They put on the helmet, they put on the rings, everybody takes pictures. It’s nice.”

Landeta played 22 seasons in the NFL for five teams. The two-time Pro Bowler won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants in 1986 and 1991.

Schefter joined ESPN in 2009 after stints at the NFL Network and NBC Sports. His Twitter account, to which Schefter routinely breaks and posts football news, has more than 3 million followers.

“This is our way of giving back and it helps get word out about us too,” Zanfardino said. “There’s nothing to buy like there is sometimes at these things. It’s free. That’s why we call it customer appreciation.”

Zanfardino said there will also be a $10 raffle drawing for free pizza.
