Levels to perform South High student’s play

The Island Now

Explore one of the darker chapters in world history when Levels presents a “Next Stage” production of Anoush Baghdassarian’s original play “Found. Performances will be held Friday and Saturday, May 31 and June 1 at 8 p.m. in Levels at the Main Library at 159 Bayview Avenue.

Levels, the Great Neck Library’s cultural center for teenagers presents several theatrical productions a year, all directed, produced and performed by students seventh grade through college-age. “Next Stage” productions are put together outside of Levels by advanced students and created, funded and rehearsed independently, using Levels as a co-producer and performance venue.

“Found” tells the story of a young woman named Lucine and the traumas she experienced during the Armenian Genocide. As Lucine’s older self writes in her diary, we see her youthful memories enacted onstage, forming a very personal portrait of a devastating time in history.

Each performance of “Found” will be followed by a moderated talk with the author and cast about the history behind the play.

Baghdassarian, a South High School senior, is directing her own script.

Her cast, all local students, includes Elora Aclin, Antranig Baghdassarian, Aram Baghdassarian, Yuval Ben-Hayun, Rachel Coons, Richard Feder, Michelle Geffner, Brandon Heller-Sabet, J.P. Macrigiane, Nina Mor, Maggie Roach and Jacob Szilagi. The production features Sophie Baghdassarian as stage manager, with Anna Zagubizhenko as costume designer, Aaron Mechanic as lighting designer and Ramy Joory as sound designer.

Showtime is 8:00 p.m. Doors open at 7:15 p.m. for ticketholders and 7:45 p.m. for non-ticketholders. Tickets are free of charge and are intended to guarantee seating.
