Library to host tours ahead of referendum

The Island Now

The public is invited to take a tour of the Great Neck Library Main Building to see the current condition of the building as well as to better understand the improvements being planned as part of the proposed renovation. Weekend tours will be led by library board trustee Joel Marcus, and Alice K. Merwin, a long time Great Neck resident and supporter of the library.

The next tour is Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. The tours will begin in the main lobby and will last approximately 45 minutes.

Additional weekday daytime tours, led by head of maintenance Charles Wohlgemuth and interim Assistant Director Christine Johnson, will be offered on Wednesday afternoons at 1 p.m. on Nov. 6 and 13.

Weather permitting, the tours will include the grounds and stairs. Appropriate dress is suggested.

On Nov. 19, a public referendum vote is being held on the proposed $10.4 million dollar renovation plan. This amount will cover the needed infrastructure upgrades and will create a library space appropriate to support the information, technology and community needs for the 21st century.

To learn more about the renovation plans, visit the Great Neck Library website at www.greatnecklibrary.org or call the interim Library Director Laura Weir at (516) 466-8055.
