A local nutritionist got to showcase her expertise on the “12 Weeks of Summer” series on News 12. Maria Dello appeared on five different segments on July 1, with topics ranging from “Better Beach Eats,” to “Revving Up Your Metabolism.”

Dello spoke about the importance of staying hydrated in the summer months, stating that 75 percent of people are dehydrated.

Dello recommends to, “Eat your water by consuming high-water containing foods.” Dello showcased watermelon, cucumbers and kiwis, all of which are rich in potassium, a mineral that aids in water absorption.

Another segment showcased some popular drinks and showed healthier alternatives.

Elizabeth Hashagen, Dello’s interviewer, could not believe that a common iced coffee drink had the same amount of sugar as 32 Nila Wafers.

“I was amazed because drinking our calories can be a big health problem,” said Hashagen.

Dello is a certified medical nutritionist and owner of Dellonutritionals, located at 75 Plandome Road in Manhasset. She appears live on WOR 710 Radio’s, “The Heart Show,” as a co-host and lectures about weight loss, diabetes and family nutrition.
