Long Island Orchid fest set for May 2-4

The Long Island Orchid Society recently announced that they will be holding their Second Annual Long Island Orchid Festival May 2 – 4, at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park. 

Fueled by the success of their First Annual Festival, this years festival will host additional orchid vendors from around the world, include lectures from advanced orchid growers and a orchid painting demonstration and raffle.

Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park is Long Island’s premier public arboretum and historic site located in Oyster Bay, New York. 

A former Gold Coast estate, the arboretum is comprised of 409 acres of greenhouses, rolling lawns, formal gardens, woodland paths, and outstanding plant collections. The original historic estate buildings remain including the 65 room Tudor Revival mansion, Coe Hall, which is open for tours spring through fall. 

The grounds, landscaped by the Olmsted Brothers of Brookline, Mass. are spectacularly beautiful year round.

Established is 1953, the Long Island Orchid Society is a group of fun-loving orchid growers with a wide range of experience. The goal of the Long Island Orchid Society is to provide its members with the knowledge to make orchid growing fun. The Long Island Orchid Society has monthly meetings, exhibitions and raffles, knowledgeable speakers, periodic auctions of a wide range of orchids and a monthly culture corner, where growers of all skill levels bring their plants and questions and receive expert guidance.
