Police arrested an Elmont man Tuesday morning who they say threatened his girlfriend with a gun in Searingtown.

William Santos Jr., 34, pointed the black and silver handgun at his 29-year-old girlfriend during an argument early Tuesday morning, Nassau County police said.

The woman was able to run away and call the police, who arrested Santos at his Elmont home at 1:40 a.m., police said. Detectives eventually found a Smith & Wesson handgun that belonged to Santos, police said.

Santos was to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead on two counts of criminal possession of a weapon and one count each of criminal possession of a firearm, menacing and criminal mischief, police said.
