Man struck by car on Jericho Turnpike

A 59-year-old man was struck by a car while standing on Jericho Turnpike in Mineola early last Thursday afternoon, according to Nassau County Police.

Detectives said a 20-year-old male driver southbound on Nassau Boulevard in a 2012 Toyota turned left moving eastbound on Jericho Turnpike when he struck the man standing in the roadway on Aug. 22 at 12:50 p.m.

Police said the victim suffered severe head trauma and was transported by ambulance to Winthrop-University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. 

Detectives report no apparent criminality with the accident at this time. The vehicle passed all safety inspections conducted at the scene of the accident.
