An  Albertson man who allegedly threatened another Albertson resident with what turned out to be a BB gun on Wednesday morning was subsequently shot three times by Nassau County Police officers when he refused to drop his weapon, police said.

The police received a 911 call at 10:20 a.m. on June 19 from a 22-year-old Albertson resident who said he had just been confronted by a man with a black handgun outside his house as he was pulling his car into the driveway.

“There were no words exchanged,” Nassau County Police Detective Vincent Garcia said.

Police arrived on the scene shortly after receiving the call and broadcast a description of the suspect. Police said officers at the scene subsequently saw Brian Reilly who lives at 97 Netz Place in Albertson, walking on Netz Place.

Garcia said officers approached Reilly, who was then walking about 50 yards from the scene of the reported confrontation. Police said when the police officers confronted Reilly, he pulled what appeared to be a black handgun from his waistband and pointed it at them.

“They ordered him to stop. He ignored multiple requests to drop the weapon,” Garcia said. “He pointed the gun and advanced toward the officer and was shot.”

Garcia said the suspect was struck by bullets fired by two police officers three times, in the left thigh, the right leg and the right hand. The suspect did not fire at the police officers, Garcia said.

Reilly was arrested and was subsequently transported to a local hospital, according to Garcia, who said the wounds were not “life-threatening.”

The two officers who shot the man were also transported to a local hospital for trauma treatment.

The weapon Reilly threatened the officers with was a black BB handgun, police said.

Police said Reilly is charged with two counts of menacing a police officer, menacing second degree and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon. Police said he would be arraigned as soon as it is practical to do so.
