Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano declared May as Asian-American Heritage Month in Nassau County during a celebratory program on May 17 that featured a variety of cultural presentations, vocal performances and traditional foods from Asian and South Asian countries.

The county executive also recognized and honored leaders in Nassau County’s Asian-American community during the ceremony, which was held at the Theodore Roosevelt Executive and Legislative Building in Mineola.

“I am pleased to declare the month of May as Asian American Heritage Month in Nassau County. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the many achievements of the Asian-American community not only here in Nassau, but across the country,” Mangano said. “I also congratulate all of our honorees, who have all contributed so much to their communities and who continue to serve as role models to their friends and neighbors.”

Mangano honored Richard K. Kim of New Hyde Park, the chief financial officer and general counsel of Kiss Products Inc., a Port Washington global manufacturer and distributor of beauty and hair care products. Kim came to the United States in 1970 and was appointed as the first Korean-American assistant district attorney in Queens County.
