Mangano honors ‘civilian’ police

Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano was joined by officials at the Nassau County Police Department’s Civilian Police Academy where he commended trainees for their dedication to serving the people of Nassau County.

The Civilian Police Academy offers a 14-week training program for participants to learn ways in which they can assist police and improve the quality of life within Nassau County.  A donation from the Nassau County Police Department Foundation has helped to support the Civilian Police Academy program.

“We are very grateful for the support of the Nassau County Police Department Foundation in helping us to continue this important program that builds upon the Nassau County Police Department’s intelligence-led policing model,” said Mangano.  “This program is extremely beneficial in helping officers better understand the community they serve.”

The Civilian Police Academy was started in 1995 and has hosted 14 academies since its inception, although civilians have been working within the police department since 1929.  The 15th Civilian Police Academy is due to graduate in June.
