Mangano touts county entertainment sked

The Island Now

I am so very proud of our parks system and all we have to offer in our great county. This summer we have an action packed line up of quality entertainment and the best part is that most events are free for Nassau County residents!

My efforts to create tourism, coupled with the immense support from local business sponsors, makes it possible to bring top notch events like the TD fireworks spectacular to you at no charge. This summer my biweekly column will alert you to our upcoming events. So get your lawn chair ready and mark your calendar for some good old fashioned free park entertainment.

In Eisenhower Park our International Music series marches on with Latino American Night on Sunday, July 14 and Punjabi American Night on Sunday, July 21. These free events begin at 7:30 p.m.

The International Music Nights Concert Series is a great Nassau County tradition with nearly two dozen nights dedicated to music and culture that honors a range of ethnic groups. So come enjoy the park, music and culture all summer long.

On Wednesdays we continue our free Noontime Summer Concert Series in Eisenhower Park and Chelsea Evening concerts at Chelsea Mansion. On July 17 we welcome Stan and Eddie at noon and the Long Island Conservatory of Music at 7:30 p.m. at Chelsea Mansion.

On July 24 we have Randy and the Rainbows for the noontime concert and the Leon Petruzzi Jazz Orchestra, again at 7:30 p.m., at Chelsea Mansion.

Also this summer on Thursday evenings we are continuing our Family Movie Nights at Lakeside Theatre in Eisenhower Park. Beginning at dusk, family-friendly films will be shown on the big screen, including “ParaNorman” on July 18 and Madagascar 3 on July 25.

Thursday nights in July at 7:30 p.m., join us at Grant Park for a free Grant Park Pond Patio show series. On July 16 we welcome Something (Tribute to the Beatles) and on July 23 we have Yesterdaze Songs of the ‘50s and 60s. I hope to see you there!

On July 20 I am proud to be hosting the 3rd Annual County Executive Soccer Cup. The finest high school boys’ soccer players from around Nassau County will showcase their talents in front of college coaches from the tri-state area. This event kicks off at 9:00 a.m. at Cantiague Park.

From July 18 through July 25 we will be celebrating the Long Island International Film Expo’s 16th year at the Bellmore Movies, and one of Long Island’s largest regional film festivals, featuring between 50 and 155 short and feature-length independent films from around the world.

“The Hills are Alive” at Lakeside Theatre with the Plaza Theatrical’s production of the classic musical by Rogers and Hammerstein about the Trapp Family Singers in World War II Austria. Come on by Lakeside on Friday, July 19 at 7:00 p.m. for this free fun-filled evening.

We are once again hosting Show Wagon Shows at Wantagh Park on Thursdays in July.

Starting at 7:30 p.m. on July 18 we will have Shotgun Wedding and on July 25 The Mystic will take the stage.

Please visit  www.nassaucountyny.gov/agencies/Parks/index.html for more information on any of our Parks events.

Thank you and enjoy your parks system!
