The Manhasset boys’ lacrosse team’s run through the Class B state playoffs ended in Saturday’s final with a 17-8 loss to Victor High School.

Manhasset (16-6), which defeated Yorktown High School with less than a second remaining in last Wednesday’s state semifinal match, trailed the Blue Devils (22-0) by four goals on four separate occasions before Victor pulled away for good with a 5-0 run midway through the second half.

Victor, located in Rochester, opened the game on an 8-0 run, winning seven of the game’s first eight faceoffs en route to goals.

Indians midfielder Tyler Dunn lost 13 of 18 faceoffs against the Blue Devils’ T.D. Ierlan, who also took seven of 10 faceoffs from Manhasset’s Ben Cirella.

Logan Dunn (two goals), Matt Gavin (two goals), and Mike Bellucci (one goal, one assist) led Manhasset with two points apiece.

Manhasset goaltender Demitri Papadopolous, who relieved Jack Miller in net in the second quarter, made 10 saves.

The loss came days after a thrilling 10-9 state semifinal win over Yorktown in which Gavin scored with half a second remaining in regulation.

Manhasset led 9-7 with about a minute and a half left before Yorktown scored twice to tie it.

With 26 seconds left, Tyler Dunn won one of his 19 faceoffs, and Gavin picked up a ground ball and fired for the game-winner.

It was Gavin’s second game-winner in the state playoffs, having lifted the Indians over Mount Sinai with 28.9 seconds remaining for Manhasset’s Long Island Class B title on May 30.

In addition to his faceoff wins, Tyler Dunn had five goals and two assists against Yorktown.
