Manhasset keeps hope alive with win over Sewanhaka

In one of their most exciting games of the season, the Manhasset girls varsity basketball team took on Sewanhaka at home on Friday, Jan. 29, earning a dramatic, 74-71 victory.  

The last time the two teams met at Sewanhaka, Manhasset fell 72-36, with Sewanhaka pressuring their opponents throughout the game. 

This time, with Manhasset needing a victory, the team came out and played extremely well on both sides of the ball and were able to maintain their lead throughout the fourth quarter to win the game.

Lauren Merola led the scoring with 34 points, including five from three-point range and 7-for-8 from the foul line in the last quarter, as well as six rebounds. Chloe Murphy added 17 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, Erin Barry had eight points, 10 assists and five rebounds, Leah Ritterband had five points, Alexa Terenzi and Steph Petras chipped in four points and five rebounds each, and Kate Bellucci had two points.

The team followed up the win with victories over, Bellmore JFK, 50-43, Carey, 46-36 and East Meadow, 65-54.
