Manhasset voters will go to the polls Tuesday to elect retired lawyer Christine Monterosso and school board President Regina Rule to a new two year term, if there are no write-in candidates.
Monterosso and Rule are currently running unopposed as Trustee Craig Anderson relinquishes his seat on the Board of Trustees.
“Nothing has changed really,” Monterosso said on Tuesday. “I’m excited for the election and the people that I’ve spoken with are really grateful that someone who cares about them is running.”
Monterosso, a 12-year Manhasset resident said she would offer a unique perspective to the Board of Education.
She said she understand the concerns of parents in the district because her children still attend Manhasset schools.
“I have a kid who is going to be in kindergarten and sixth grade next year,” Monterosso said. “And I know a lot of mothers with younger children in the district and I hope to serve as their voice on the board.”
When she moved to the district from Manhattan in 2004, Monterosso said, she immediately got involved with the school district, serving as grade level chair for the Manhasset School Community Association, then on the Shared Decision Making Committee. She would later serve as liaison of the SCA to the Board of Education, a role she was the most important she played.
“I’m excited at the possibility at working on the board and its something that I feel very passionate about it,” Monterosso said.
Rule, who has served on the school board for five years, said she looks forward to continuing her work with other trustees and school administrators.
“We have an incredible faculty, staff and administrators in the school district,” Rule said. “And I enjoy the process of making sure that we have challenging course curriculums for students from K-12.”
A former bond trader, Rule moved to Manhasset in 1993 with her husband, who is a Manhasset school alum, to also raise their children.
She said her husband had always spoken highly of the school district, an important part of her decision to move to Manhasset.
Registered voters living in the district can vote at Manhasset High School from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
