Sixteeen teachers and one administrator were recognized for receiving tenure at the Manhasset Board of Education’s recognition ceremony Wednesday at the Black Box Theatre.

The teachers recognized included Agatha Gliksman, Michelle Madden, Denise Pfister, Dr. Maria Reina, Lisa Binetti, Sarah Sammis, Elizabeth Theo-Maloney, Vanessa Marone, Danielle Lidonnici, Stacey Weinstein, Danielle Cerulli, Michelle Fazzolari, Dr. Suzanne Main-Wegielnick, Derek Jones, Allison Huenger and Marcela Sepe.

Charles Leone was the lone administrator recognized.

The one-hour program saw each educator recognized in front of their family, friends and colleagues.

“It was a great event,” said Anthony Ambrogio, administrator for the arts and human resources. “We want to recognize [those who were honored] for their hard work and their professionalism. [We want to] celebrate the things that they bring to the district.”

According to Ambrogio, the process to receive tenure in the Manhasset School District includes constant evaluations by administrators, frequent unannounced observation as well as input from community members, among other factors.

Ambrogio also said that traits such as competence, the ability to teach and the ability to engage students are all characteristics that the district “takes seriously” when deciding if an employee is eligible to receive tenure.

The next Board meeting will take place on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the EOC Building.
