Manhasset village seats up for election in March

The positions of a trio of Munsey Park officials that unseated longtime incumbents two years ago as well as a pair Flower Hill trustees appointed in the last few months will be among those up for election in March.

Village of Munsey Park Mayor Frank DeMento, Deputy Mayor Sean Haggerty and Trustee Patrick Hance – who defeated 17-year Mayor Harry Nicolaides and trustees Al Jaronczyk and Sheila Brennan in 2013 – are up for re-election on March 18, while seats held by Flower Hill’s Brian Herrington and Jay Beber will be voted on in a special election.

Herrington was appointed to the board in November to serve the remainder of the term vacated by former Deputy Mayor Tab Hauser, who resigned from the village board in June after moving to Glen Cove.

Beber joined the board in December to fill the trustee position vacated by Eileen Mills, who resigned in November due to family issues.

The position occupied by Bob McNamara, Flower Hill’s deputy mayor, is also up for election. McNamara was first elected in 2013 and was previously the chairman of the village’s finance committee. He was appointed deputy mayor in December.

Manhasset-area village elections will take place on Wednesday, March 18. They are typically held the third Tuesday in March, but were moved to the 18th, a Wednesday, to accommodate the observance of St. Patrick’s Day, a federal holiday.

The filing deadline for petitions of candidates who wish to be placed on the ballot is Feb. 10.

Village board terms are for two years each.

Two other mayoral positions, of M. Lloyd Williams in Plandome and Barbara Donno in Plandome Manor, will also be on the ballot.

The positions of seven-term Plandome Manor trustee Matthew Clinton and newcomer James Baydar, who was appointed to the board in September to fill the rest of the term of former Trustee Irwin Klein, who resigned in July and moved out of the village, are also up for election.

In Plandome, Trustee Katie Saville and Village Justice James Kiley’s positions are also on this year’s ballot.

Three trustee positions – those of longtime officials Lawrence Bourguet and Norman Taylor as well as that of Daniel Cataldo, who was elected in 2013 – are up for election in Plandome Heights.
