Manorhaven sets business committee

Village of Manorhaven trustees on Wednesday established a business revitalization committee to identify ways of diversifying the village’s commercial activity.

Manorhaven Mayor Giovanna Giunta said the committee would “utilize open forums, identify resources, and address the needs for creating a vibrant varying business community.”

Officials said the committee will be made up of Bob Robichaud, of Bob’s Quality Auto; Peter Roestenberg, of R&R Auto; Ernesto Trinidad, of Sabor Latino Deli; Peter Meyer, of Meyer’s Mechanics; Donald Markowitz, of County Cleaners; and Dennis Pariti, of RiverFish Restaurant.

“We tried to balance it, make it even from Manhasset Isle to Manorhaven,” Giunta said.

Manorhaven Deputy Mayor Lucretia Steele said the committee would work alongside the non-profit revitalization organization Sustainable Long Island to provide a better understanding of the demographics in the area and as a result target businesses that better serve those who want them.

“The good news is we’re going to have an open forum for all business owners in the area,” Steele said. “They can come up with ideas as well, it’s going to be a very concerted effort.”

In other developments:

• The board announced the hiring of former North Hempstead Town Clerk Leslie Gross as the village’s new clerk and treasurer.

Gross, a Manhasset resident, served as town clerk from 2007-13 and lost a re-election bid last year to former Nassau County Legislator Wayne Wink (D-Roslyn).

• Trustees also acknowledged the contributions of former trustees Mark Lazarovic and Dorit Zeevi-Farrington, who lost re-election to their positions in mid June to Priscilla von Roeschlaub and Kevin Gately.

“You’re certainly an asset to the village,” Giunta said. “You will be sorely missed and I just want to say thank you for you dedication.”

• Giunta also thanked Liz Gaynor, the village’s former clerk and treasurer, who resigned upon accepting the same position with the Village of Sands Point.

“We say goodbye with much appreciate and warmest good wishes,” Giunta said.
