Martins a strong ally in aircraft-noise battle

The Island Now

On Sept. 27 Francene Gould sent you a letter addressing state Sen. Martins involvement with the effort to reduce aircraft noise over her town.

In my opinion the letter is grossly unfair to the Senator and gives the impression that he is not trying to help our cause.

That impression cannot be further from the truth. Up until very recently our efforts have concentrated on getting substantive help from the our Congressional representatives. That effort has been largely unproductive so

we have recently been educating our state representatives on our plight.

Our hope is that that by working through the state and the Port Authority we might be able to accomplish what we have not been able to do at the federal level. At recent community meetings with the senator I personally, along with others, addressed the problems we are having at the federal level and I believe he will do his best to develop a plan and or legislation that will get something done about the noise.

Gould’s letter was out of line, misleading, insulting and makes us look like loose cannons. It can only serve to undue all the work that has been done to cultivate support from our elected officials.

If you must publish Ms. Gould’s letter, please publish mine as well.
