Max art on exhibit

The Island Now

Famed artist Peter Max was at Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn Harbor this week to celebrate the opening of his first museum exhibit in New York. The exhibit includes many of Max’s drawings that have never before been seen by the public. Max is shown against a wall of his psychedelic posters that defined art of the ‘60s in the same way that the Beatles came to define music of that decade.

“Peter Max,” a major exhibition of his paintings and drawings, is on view through Feb. 23, 2014. The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. each day.  “Peter Max — Highlights of a Career” screens daily at 11 a.m., 12, p.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. Guided tours of the exhibition are offered every day at 2 p.m. Film and tours are free with museum admission.
