Red Sharks Travel Division

The 12U Merillon Redsharks took on the Lynbrook Knights in the championship game.  Merillon was led on the mound for the playoffs by Peter Carreca, Matt Rivera and Philip Mensit.  These pitchers saved their best stuff for the playoffs and championship.  The defense was led by CJ Riccobono and Justin Tamara.  Riccobono played a great shortstop to keep the Redsharks in the game with great defense. Justin Tamara was a rock behind the plate calling a great game and solid defense.

The hot hitting of Michael Jacobs, Daniel Goldberg, Peter Carreca, Matt Rivera, CJ Riccobono, Chris Carbone and Eric Madenberg put up a ton of runs.  Chris Carbone came to play for both the playoffs and championship games with solid defense and hitting. 

Gold gloves go to Chris Bruccolieri and Jordan Seidenberg. Bruccolieri used his speed to steal three bases. Mike Jacobs’ hot bat and timely hitting got the Redsharks the lead in the championship. Peter Carreca drove in two runs with a double to give Merillon a comfortable lead.  Matt Rivera pitched a gem to lead Merillon in the championship and an undefeated campaign. The boys all played well this spring season to capture this title. 

Girls Minors Division

Green Coast Oil Bluejays vs. East Williston

The Bluejays came out strong with a home run from Julia Renny, her fifth this year, driving in two runs. Riley Boshnack stole two bases, Amber Roggendorf hit a long double. Sydney Solomon had two RBIs and was awarded the player of the game.  Sarina Barot pitched well and had two hits. Kylie Bruccolieri walked three times and played solid defense.  Vanessa DiNardo made three gold glove plays and had two walks and two steals. Kayla Menoscal played solid defense behind the plate.  Sofia Carreca came in for the save and struck out the side to preserve the win for the Bluejays.   

 

Boys Farms Division

The Evolution Realty/Reva Energy Royals vs. Ridgewood Savings Bank Dodgers

The Evolution Realty/Reva Energy Royals and the Ridgewood Savings Bank Dodgers squared off at Dietz Dairy Field Tuesday evening. Royals fans were treated to a combined no-hitter. Michael Merolla, Bobby Symanski and Christian Thomas held the Dodgers hitless through six innings. Jesse Rogendorf had two hits and Johhny Rogendorf, Domenico Massi, Trevor Bosschnack, Brian Ho and Charlie Newburgh all had hits in the contest.

 

Boys Minors Division

Dr. Thomas Barbaro Podiatry/Parker Jewish Institute Rays vs. Stutzman & Son Funeral Home/Tudor Advisory Group Giants

Dr. Thomas Barbaro Podiatry/Parker Jewish Institute Rays and Stutzman & Son Funeral Home/Tudor Advisory Group Giants played to a 8-8 tie at Merillon Park. Down by six runs early, the Rays proved you should never give up, eventually tying the game with three runs in the last inning with two outs. Vinay Patel was the game MVP, pitching the last three innings, giving up only one run and striking out seven batters. Leading the offensive juggernaut to get back into the game was Christian Flynn, Marco Gullo, Luke Notine and James Prado, who each had two hits. Alex Isopo continued to find ways to get on base, scoring two big runs. Arjun Bhatt blasted a double into left-center field and later came around to score.

Scott McClellan came out of the bullpen, pitching two good innings, giving up one run and striking out four batters. Sebestian Lennox hitting streak continued, going 1-for-2, including a big sacrifice bunt to move up a base runner who would late scored. William Vasilakos and Sanketh Kumar provided excellent defense wherever asked to play. Hot hitting Josh Henderson stroked a line drive single to continue his own hitting streak. The big hit of the game was provided by James Prado, who knocked in the tying runs with two outs in the last inning. Darkness set in, calling the game before extra innings could be played. Great game by both teams as they both prepare for the upcoming playoffs.

 

The Dr. Barbaro Podiatrist/Parker Jewish Institute Rays defeat the SAI Insurance Pirates 6-3

The Dr. Barbaro Podiatrist/Parker Jewish Institute Rays outlasted the SAI Insurance Pirates 6-3 on a beautiful night for baseball at Merillon Field. Luke Notine was firing strikes for the Rays, pitching three innings, striking out four batters, and got the win. Luke also got a big single and later scored. Also providing timely offensive hits were Christian Flynn, Anthony Agerenza and Josh Henderson, who each got a single and all later scored. James Prado blasted a line drive homer into left-center and scored another run later in the game after getting on base via a walk. Anthony also came into the game  as a closer getting the save in the last inning while striking out two batters.

Marco Gullo came in to relieve Luke and pitched two strong innings, striking out three batters. Marco also did a great job fielding his position snaring a line drive and starting a one-three double play. In the third inning, however, Marco was robbed of a sure extra base hit as the Pirates’ Jimmy Weedon, a sure golden glover, made a diving catch on a low liner to left field.

Arjun Bhatt had a big game, smacking a two-RBI double and later scored. Sanketh Kumar blasted a big RBI single in the five-run second inning for the Rays. Sebestian Lennox continued his hot hitting going 2-for-2 with two singles. Scott McClellan played a sensational short stop making several fine defensive plays. William Vasilakos and Alex Isopo provided great defense wherever asked to play. It was a fine, well-played baseball game by both teams as the playoffs approach.

 

Great pitching leads the Stutzmann Funeral Home/ Tudor Advisory Group Giants past the SAI Insurance Pirates 2-1 in an exciting playoff game

The fans were treated to quite a pitching duel on a beautiful day at Merillon Stadium.  Ryan Wasserman struck out 16 batters on only one hit to lift the Giants to a 2-1 win over the Pirates at Merillon Field in six innings.  The Pirates had some masterful pitching of their own, allowing only three hits by three pitchers; James Asmus, Jimmy Weedon and Ryan Kunak.  The Giants pushed one run across in the fourth inning to start the scoring. The Giants scored on a groundout RBI by Garrett Roth.  The Pirates scored their only run of the game on a single by Asmus in the sixth inning.  After a quick strike from the Pirates, the Giants responded with one run in the sixth. The Giants scored on a walk off RBI single by Kenny Hirschfeld. Duhan Lee had a good day at the plate going 1-2 with a walk and a run scored.  Chris Chin contributed with two walks.  Brendan Cooper did a great job behind the plate.  Congratulations to both teams on an excellent season. 

 

Boys Majors Division

Long Island Orthodontics Dr. Zadnik Merillon Ducks 7, New Hyde Park Elks Lodge Bears 1.

On May 27, The Ducks turned in one of their best performances of the season by declawing the Bears. Mike Jacobs, in his first start as a Duck, fanned seven in two plus innings to earn the win. Mike also put on a clinic at the plate, going 3-for-3, including a double, a triple, two stolen bases and an RBI. Adrian Balkcom collected two more hits, reaching base all three times Adrian also stole a base, scored the game-winning run and was solid behind the dish. Ian Tsao had his best game as a Duck, reaching base twice, scoring a run and stealing three bases including home. Chris Bruccoleri collected a hit in his only plate appearance. Justin Tamara played solid defense and pitched the sixth inning to close out the game. A.J. DeVito scored a run and played stellar defense. A.J. also recorded a strikeout in an inning plus of relief. Ibrahim Khwaja battled mightily at the plate and was a star on defense. Mike Castelli reached base once and also flashed the leather. Nico Loguidice had three solid at bats and was money in the field. Martin Lev reached base twice, stole a base and crushed a single in the sixth inning. Jared Puntus scored a run and was very active in the field. Abidin Dauti smashed two doubles, scored two runs, stole two bases and drove in three including the game winner. Abidin also struck out four in two plus innings of relief.

 

The New Hyde Park Elks Bears vs. Dr. Zadnik Ducks 

The Bears were led by Phil Schurr, who had a nice single up the middle and played solid defense behind the plate. Ryan Gaudio, Daniel Vilbig, Stephen Derocchis, Marc Baronci, Alfred Squirino, Frankie Sanuti and Dillon Hod had strong at bats.  Daniel Vilbig led the way on the mound with five strikeouts. Peter Carreca was strong on the mound. Dylan McNaulty, Richard Kanters , Rayahan Khan, Matt Strocchia was strong at the plate and in the field. The Bears are ready for the playoffs.  

 

The Evolution Realty River Sharks vs. The New Hyde Park Elks Bears

The Evolution Realty River Sharks battled the Bears at Merillon Field this past Saturday. Cenzo Montoni, Nick Levkulic, and Anthony Steves contributed with their bats. Franco Dimilta, Aaron Minkow and Daniel Mattei played solid defense. James Dermezis continues to be a reliable backstop for the River Sharks. James caught the entire game and assisted two players making their River Sharks pitching debut navigate through a formidable Bears lineup. Daniel Loughlin stepped up on the hill and kept the Bears bats in check, tossing two strong innings. To end game, the River Sharks unveiled side-arming closer Matt Merolla, who pounded the strike zone and baffled the opposing hitters.
