Midfield maintains perfection, Lady Jags win

The Island Now

The NHP Lady Jaguars U-14 team rolled into Westfield, New Jersey on Sunday afternoon and left winners in a 3-1 match, one step closer to an undefeated season.

Despite a less than ideal field and the quickly setting sun, the Lady Jags stepped up to show why they remain at the top of the pack in their conference.  Sunday was all about the incredibly hard work of the midfielders

It became obvious from the start of the game that FC Premier Coloccini was a fast paced and physical team.  That proved to be no problem for Mary Tsahas, Zoe Winston, Erin Lutz and Aisling McGrath who dominated the middle of the field.

On more than one occasion, Zoe Winston found herself wrapped in the arms of the opposing team but was still able to expertly maneuver the ball to the forwards.  Mary Tsahas, the leading middie on the team, showed her poise and talent in tackling, frustrating the opposition with her foot skills and smart play.  Erin Lutz and Aisling McGrath did their part in keeping fresh legs on the field and controlling the pace of the game.

Scoring occurred in the first half when Caitlin Chestler passed to Carly Bloom for the 1st goal of the game.  The second goal saw Mary Tsahas send the ball to Bella Arato who passed to Carly Bloom for the second goal with the third goal scored by Bella Arato after a pass from Carly Bloom.

The defense of Andrea Bouzos, Vrisida Bouzos, Samantha Corrigan, Jillian Fager, Nora Higgins and Catherine Rivera helped goalie Linda Artusa keep the Westfield team to one goal.  The other offensive players, Samantha Coope, Marilena Mangiaracina, and Nicole Orlando supported the scoring drives for the Lady Jags.

Lady Thundercats claw way closer to top

The New Hyde Park GU12 Lady Thundercats earned a hard fought 1-0 victory against Woodhaven United at Great Neck South High School.

The match remained scoreless until late in the second half when Darla Petricca broke through and scored what proved to be the game winning goal with approximately five minutes left to play.

Emma Fager was fantastic in goal stopping all shots, and the back line of Zandria Crosland, Lexi Burke, Sarah Carlson, and Jessica Vieni limited the scoring chances all day.

The midfield play of Briana Dunn, Ava Giangrande, Meghan Korzevinski, and Lauren Connolly controlled the play and worked the ball up to the forwards.

Up top and on the flanks, Jordan Behar, Justina Pugliese, and Darla Petricca kept the pressure on throughout the game.

The Lady Thundercats now sit in the top four of the GU12 Champions Division with three matches remaining.

NHP U12 Lions roar with a Halloween win

The boys U12 NHP Lions took another win this Saturday, Oct. 31 putting them in second place in their division against the Great Neck White Bombers.

The boys defeated the Bombers, 2-1, with goals scored by Brendon Coogan and Matthew Spagnolo.  Many shots were put on goal and excellent ball skills were demonstrated by offenders Stephen Lopez and Mayur Talele.

Julian Wasiluk, Jacob Miller, Jesse Ryan and Aidan Donohue patrolled the midfield, while reliable defense was put on display by Thomas Delloiacono, Luke Gruosso, Simon Papavangeli and Asim, repeatedly stopping Great Neck from attempting shots on goal and turning the ball away. Zack Montalbano also shined in goal.
