Mineola railroad commuters will soon have a new donut shop to shop at before boarding their trains.

The Mineola Village Board approved a special-use permit at its meeting last Wednesday night for Condeco Management Corp. to put a donut and coffee shop on the ground floor of a building it owns at 47 Mineola Blvd.

Mark Donnarumma, one of the Condeco principal owners, told village trustees there would be no table service in the shop in response to a question about the shop he was proposing.

“No sit down. Just pick up and go,” Donnarumma said.

Donnarumma said the shop will serve sandwiches, bagels, rolls and assorted beverages in addition to donuts and coffee. He said he hasn’t yet come up with a name for the shop.

He said the 1,000-square foot location will have a bathroom equipped for handicapped-access.

In response to a question about food deliveries from Village of Mineola Deputy Mayor Paul Pereira, Donnarumma said all food deliveries will be made on the 3rd Street side of the building to avoid tying up traffic on Mineola Boulevard.

He said the shop will buy its baked goods from a Mineola  bakery.

After the public hearing, he said he is planning to open the shop by March 1.

In other developments:

• Village of Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss praised the village Department of Public Works for its cleanup effort during and after the recent snowstorm. He also reminded residents they could be fined if they fail to move their cars village streets when a snowfall of four inches or more is predicted.

“We’re not looking for the money. We’re looking for compliance,” Strauss said.
