Mineola Chiefs pick up where left off

The Island Now

In their 2012 season opener, the 2011 NCYFL Champion Chiefs 11-year-olds played at home and continued on in their winning ways as they beat the Uniondale Knights 28-6.

All the boys played and participated in the victory.

The Chiefs offense led by the speedy quarterback Michael O’Connell (1 TD, 1 extra point)) and the strong runs by Running Backs Matt Sluka (1 TD), Jack Duff (1 TD), Jalen Rivers (1 TD) and Matt Grimm (1 extra point) were able to move the ball because of the great blocking by the offensive line of Kevin Parente, Patrick McTiernan, Anthony Giunta, Brandon Coward, Michael LaGinestra, Tight-ends Spenser Warantz and Philip Arnold.

The Chiefs defense was intense, making gang tackles all over the field.

The defensive line of Dylan Vincenti (Safety), Sante Nicolia, Damien Patterson, Lance Costa, Naz Jackson, Joshua Jacob, Vincent Pomara, Ocian Villa and Ryan Calderone kept the pressure on Uniondale’s offense the whole day.

The linebackers Rivers and Sluka attacked the ball and finished off the Knights.

Cornerbacks and Safeties were fearless; they were lead by O’Connell, Duff, Costa, Grimm and Andrew Casoria (Int).

 Scoring is summarized below:

• Michael O’Connell 50-yard touchdown run (extra point run failed)

• Matt Sluka 38-yard touchdown run (Michael O’Connell extra point run)

• Dylan Vincenti Safety (tackled QB in endzone)

• Jalen Rivers 7-yard touchdown run (kick failed)

• Jack Duff 4-yard touchdown run (Matt Grimm  extra point run)
