Mineola junior firefighters make annual trip

The Island Now

For the past 11 years, the Mineola Junior Fire Department has made an annual trip up to the Firemen’s Home in the lower Catskill Mountains. Firefighters from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties were recently there for Long Island Day, to honor the firefighters living at the home on a sunny and pleasant day.

After a short parade, a presentation was given by the president of the Firemen’s Association of New York and the trustees of the Home who come from all over the state. As in the past, the Mineola Junior Fire Department was there to give a donation to the Home. The Firemen’s Mome director, John O’Connell, was on hand to receive the donation from Mineola Junior Firefighters Captain Daniel Dempsey, Lieutenants Chase Pagnani, Brendan Corrigan and Jonmichael Schiavone.

More than 200 junior firefighters from Nassau and Suffolk County were present to help celebrate and greet the residents of the Home. O’Connell made it a point to say that the junior firefighters were the future of the volunteer fire service. A large barbecue and live music were provided by the home as appreciation to the firefighters and junior firefighters who were present to support the Home.
