The Whaling Museum & Education Center will host a lecture by Board Member Pat Aiken for an exploration of the ever-evolving relationship between humans and whales on Friday, March 26 at 6 p.m. Get a better understanding of current challenges as well as today’s conservation efforts. In her lecture, Aiken will talk about solutions to the current challenges whales face, such as plastics pollution, ocean acidification and whale strikes by boats. A wine and cheese reception with a Q&A will immediately follow.
Aiken has extensive experience in watershed management and environmental planning. She has participated in multiple community planning sessions for the development of watershed management plans, blueway trails and downtown development in the Town of Oyster Bay.
Aiken worked with the US EPA to develop and implement a Quality Assurance Project Plan for water quality monitoring in the Oyster Bay/Cold Spring Harbor watershed. This program was recognized with a Region 2 Environmental Quality Award by the EPA.
Aiken has aslo served as a media spokesperson, which included writing press releases, providing website content and electronic newsletters. In her personal life, she is an avid birder and enjoys being outdoors, whenever she can, and enjoys quilting when she has to be indoors. Aiken lives in Syosset with her husband Peter, and is the mother of two adult sons.
