Museum offers whale of a program series

The Island Now

The Whaling Museum & Education Center of Cold Spring Harbor offers a variety of activities for adults, children and families. The Museum is located at 301 Main Street in Cold Spring Harbor and is open to the general public from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., seven days a week during the summer.  Special events and programs are listed below:

 Flag Day Workshop 

Saturday, June 14 • 2:30 p.m.

Did you know ships could talk to each other using flags? In honor of Flag Day, explore flag designs, including signal flags used on ships. Design your own flag!  Ages 5-12. Free with paid admission. Members free. 

 Father’s Day 

Sunday, June 15 • 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Bring Dad free to the museum all day! Plus, gift shop items are 20 percent off this weekend. One full-paying individual must accompany each free Dad. Members free.

 Dolphin Dance Party

Saturday, June 21 • 12 – 3  p.m.

Celebrate our favorite whales with dancing, DJ Mike on the Mic, face painting, and dolphin craft stations. Free ice pops! Dress up as your favorite sea creature for door prizes. All ages. Free with Paid Admission. Members Free.

 Summer Splash Kickoff! 

June 30 – July 3 • 2 – -5 p.m.

Come enjoy summer craft stations, scavenger hunts, and exploration tables all week at the museum! Free with Admission. Members Free.   

Captains  & Merchants Historic Walking Tour

Sunday, June 29, 2014, • 11:30 a.m.

Explore the beautiful village of Cold Spring Harbor on a 40-minute guided walking tour and learn about its whaling past. Learn the history behind Captains’ Row and historic Main Street shops. Admission to the tour includes entry to The Whaling Museum, SPLIA (The Society for the Preservation of Long Island Antiquities) and the Cold Spring Harbor Fire House Museum. All visitors will leave with a coupon book full of special offers from local merchants, plus a complimentary book about Cold Spring Harbor’s history. 

$10 Person, $15 Pair. $5 Members. Light rain or shine.
