Nassau County honors UFC champ Weidman

The Island Now

Newly crowned UFC Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman was at the Coral House on July 17, where Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano proclaimed it Chris Weidman Day in Nassau County. New York State Senator Dean Skelos and Town of Hempstead Supervisor Kate Murray were also on hand to congratulate Weidman.

On July 6, Weidman knocked out one of the greatest MMA fighters of all-time, Anderson Silva. With that upset victory, Weidman became the UFC Middleweight Champion of the world.

Weidman was a former New York State champion wrestler at Baldwin High School and All-American at Nassau Community College and at Hofstra University.

Weidman has also proven himself to be more than a great fighter, as he and his wife organized a food and clothing drive to benefit victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Chris’ own home was devastated by Hurricane Sandy and he and his family moved in with his parents for four months.
