New burger eatery a good sign for GN

The Island Now

How refreshing to read “Cheeseburger brings ‘50s flair to Plaza” (Dan Glaun — Jan. 25).

Many other competitors such as McDonalds, Burger King, Wendys, White Castle, Five Guys, Checkers along with other fast food chains such as Domino’s Pizza, Godfather Pizza, Pizza Hut, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Sbarro,  Subway, Blimpies, Quiznos have combined opened tens of thousands of restaurants locally and nationally creating several hundred thousand jobs.

They provide gainful employment to construction contractors and their employees building their local establishments. They also pay taxes like the rest of us. Don’t forget that they provide good quality food at reasonable prices for millions of Americans on a daily basis who are on the go and don’t have the time for a longer more formal expensive meals.

All of these businesses provide gainful employment to waiters, cooks, cashiers and stock clerks along with those who deliver beverage and food supplies. Each franchise owner built their respective stores on their own with no “stimulus” funding from Uncle Sam.

How refreshing that the enlightened residents and elected officials of Great Neck Plaza encourage entrepreneurs such as Brett Frank to open new businesses such as Cheeseburger Cheeseburger.  Contrast that with those advocates of NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) snobs from some neighbors and elected officials from our more elitist affluent villages in Great Neck.

For over one year they have continued to stand in the way of other entrepreneurs who want to turn the site of an abandon gasoline station into a 7-Eleven store. These are some of the same elected officials who want to regulate what clothing you can hang outside in your backyard to dry under natures sunlight.
