The Island Now

Mary Ellen Scherer has responded to recent letters in the paper from Dr. Morris.

She writes, “I do know that, like most Republicans, you don’t seem to like a strong, intelligent woman, Dr. Morris.” First of all, this is a ridiculous, untrue generalization and secondly, Dr. Morris is quite fond of strong, intelligent women. In fact, he is married to one.

Scherer also writes, “By the way, it does not matter where the president was born. Since his mother was born in Kansas, he is an American. Even if he was born on a rock in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.”  As written in our Constitution,

Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of U.S. Constitution as adopted 17 September 1787: No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States.  Two U. S. Citizen parents are required to produce a “natural born” citizen. Since Obama’s father was never a U. S. Citizen, Barack Hussein Obama is not a “natural born” Citizen of the United States and in violation of Amendment 14, and Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the U.S. Constitution.

Scherer also comments, “I am not going to bother rebutting each and every paragraph of your letter. I will not give you the satisfaction.” Ditto; I will not rebut each and every one of Scherer’s statements.

Finally Scherer states, “To sum up, Dr. Morris, perhaps you should acquire another hobby. Other than insulting progressives in the newspaper on a weekly basis.”  Expressing views in “Letter to the Editors” in local papers is as American as apple pie. The paper has given both Dr. Morris and Ms. Scherer space to share their views. Readers may read or ignore any part of the paper according to their liking.

Please proceed, Dr. Morris.

Editor’s Note: The Constitution does not define “natural citizen.” However  the U.S. Code Classification Tables, Section 8 in part defines a citizen as “ a person born outside the United states or its territories to parents one of whom is a citizen of the United States …”  This would apply to children born to military and foreign service families and others.
