NHP Bluedevils sweep past Long Island Tribe

The Island Now

The New Hyde Park 15U Travel Baseball Team extended their winning streak to 13 games with two come-from-behind victories over the Long Island Tribe, 5-4 and 4-2.

Liam Gallagher pitched a strong five and 1/3 innings for the Bluedevils in the opener and left the game with the scored tied at 1. The Tribe rallied in the sixth inning and scored three runs for a 4-1 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.

With their winning streak on the line, Michael Greene and Anthony Millan started the comeback with back-to-back singles and Niko Rullo reached first on a infield hit to third to score Greene.

After Millan and Rullo pulled off a double steal, Brandon LaFroscia delivered a two-run hit to right that tied the score at 4. John Hayes sacrificed LaFroscia to second base and Mike Thornton got hit with a pitch to set the runners on first and second for Liam Gallagher. Gallagher drove the first pitch to right-center to plate LaFroscia for the winning run and a 5-4 walk-off win.

In the second game, it was another well-played game by both teams. Anthony Millan started the scoring in the top of the first with a solo home run to deep left-center field for an early 1-0 lead. But the Tribe came right back in the bottom of their inning with two runs to take a 2-1 lead.

Doug Obidienzo settled down and pitched four innings of two-run ball, striking out four. Mike Thornton and John Hayes each pitched a scoreless inning and gave the ball to Mike Greene to close out the game in the seventh. While trailing 2- 1 in the top of the fourth, Greene started a two-out rally by being hit by a pitch. Millan and Rullo followed with singles, the latter driving in Greene to tie the score at 2. Kyle Cajigas then delivered the big hit with a two-run single to right for the 4-2 winning margin.

The New Hyde Park 15U Bluedevils went perfect for the month of June and lead the division with a 13-0 record.
